Starlink rental for international travel

A rented kit can work abroad, but only if its Starlink plan allows it. Roam 100GB and Roam 300GB stay in your home country or region. Roam Unlimited adds up to 30 days at a time in other countries. So the first thing to ask the rental company is which plan the kit is on.

We're a directory, not a rental company. We don't rent, ship, or set up kits, and we don't take bookings. The plan rules below come from Starlink's own pages, read October 17, 2026.

Does a rented Starlink work in another country?

It depends on the account behind the kit. Starlink ties service to the country where the account is registered, which it calls your home country. Many rental companies say you don't need a Starlink account of your own, so the kit runs on theirs. Its plan and its home country decide where the kit works.

Which Starlink plans work outside your home country?

  • Roam 100GB and Roam 300GB. For use in the home country or its grouped region only.
  • Roam Unlimited. Up to 30 days at a time outside the home country. The US Roam page says it covers travel in 160+ countries and territories. After 30 days, Starlink says you can upgrade to a Priority plan, move the account to the new country, or return home to reset the 30 days.
  • Priority plans. Local Priority allows up to 60 days of international use in total, counting days already used on Roam Unlimited. Global Priority has no time limit abroad.

Starlink says customers who signed up on or after July 14 are on its updated travel policy, and existing customers moved to it on August 17, 2026.

What counts as your home country?

Starlink groups some countries together for Roam. Travel inside a group doesn't count as international.

  • US and Canada: the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
  • Europe: 37 countries and territories, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland.

Every other country stands on its own. A US kit on Roam 100GB can go to Canada, for example, but not to Mexico. Starlink also says some places may limit visits to shorter periods on any plan.

Who handles Travel Registration?

Starlink requires Travel Registration before service is used outside the home country, on every plan except Enterprise accounts. That includes Roam Unlimited and Priority. It asks for the account holder's legal name, a passport or other photo ID, and a live portrait. The name on the ID should match the name on the account.

With a rental, the account usually belongs to the company. Ask whether they've registered the kit for your destination. Starlink says service may be disabled if required registration isn't complete, and that registering doesn't guarantee service abroad.

Is Starlink allowed where you're going?

Not everywhere. Starlink says using Roam in countries marked Coming Soon or Waitlist may lead to immediate service restrictions. To see whether Roam is offered in a country, start an order on the Roam page and look for the country in the list. If it isn't there, Roam isn't available in that country right now.

Driving is another limit. Starlink says in-motion use on land is prohibited in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Jordan, and Mexico, so plan to set up the kit when you stop.

Should you rent where you're going instead?

It can be simpler. A kit from a company based in the country you're visiting is likely registered there, so the 30-day limit and grouped regions may not apply to your trip. Confirm it with the company. Some options in the directory:

  • Canada, UK, and Australia rental companies, each on its own page.
  • Global Satellite lists hubs in the US, Europe, and Morocco, with Caribbean service through the Cayman Islands.
  • Spacelink, based in the UK, mentions UK and Europe Roam.
  • Book Baja rents portable Starlink kits for yachts, villas, and RVs in Baja California, Mexico.
  • Gravity Events rents event kits in New Zealand.

Starlink also offers its own rent option in select countries, but its help page says those kits are for Residential plans only, can't be paused, and the service line can't move to another location.

What should you ask before an international trip?

  1. Which Starlink plan is the kit on?
  2. What is the kit's home country?
  3. Does the plan cover my destination, and for how many days?
  4. Have you completed Travel Registration for that country?
  5. Can I use it while driving there?
  6. Will you ship to my destination, or do I take it with me?
  7. Who do I contact if service stops while I'm away?

The rest of the booking questions, from deposit to return, are in what to confirm before you book.
